JUMP! SQUAT! BE STRONG, BE HAPPY!

I had the pleasure of working with one of @reelathletesagency  talent, lively and lovely Pallavi Gurrala @bypallavi with the assistance of makeup artist @minjee.mowat.  We had great conversation about fitness, food, lifestyle, photography, social media and more.  One thing that stuck with me, was how she shared that fitness to her wasn't just about looking good but more about how she likes feeling strong.  She likes her arms not because they're shapely ... and they are ... but because they're strong.  I've always felt that way myself.  I came back to that thought!

I had a serious knee injury a while back skydiving and tore a couple of ligaments on my crash landing! Yes, I crashed and it's a long story.  It took me forever to recover and I hated not being able to do all the things I love most like ski, windsurf, surf, play tennis.  Now I work out 5 days a week to keep my knee strong because I know how much it sucks to be injured, besides my work as a photographer is physical and strength comes in handy when you're schlepping gear around and spending a big part of the day in a semi squat position.

I had an amazing season playing in the snow in Whistler and some incredible powder days last winter. I felt so lucky to have escaped the winter unscathed with lots of fresh tracks to look back on.  I left the parking lot on the last day feeling so relieved that I was injury free, to go on with summer when I saw someone walking by injured and he called out " Looks like my meniscus".  I felt so bad for him yet so thankful that it wasn't me.

Well, would have never expected to get injured running after the parking meeter guy in the city instead of on the mountain.  Yep, that's right.  I was trying to avoid getting a ticket while I was just popping into the butchers for a minute.  When I caught him out of the corner of my eye, I swiftly ran out and in all my panic of "NOT ANOTHER TICKET!!", that's when it happened.  Instead of blurting out "please don't ticket me",  I buckled in front the of the meter man and yelled “ MY KNEE!!"

Note to self ... stay fit, keep strong and don't run after the parking guy ... ever again.
